Social Mess

Life

Social media has been part and parcel of the Internet almost since the beginning. I remember being part of a wonderful board called MamaLove or something similar.

We shared our thoughts, ideas, questions, experiences. It was a wonderful place to be.

I’ve always felt, strongly, that the Internet was a good thing, and social media could bind people who otherwise wouldn’t ever be able to meet.

I still feel that way. I’ve met people of all ages, from all nations, who share a common desire or hobby. We have become friends, have shared joys and helped each other with sorrows.

At the same time, I’ve lately become more and more disenchanted. The anger, the fear, the hate that is too often posted on various sites makes finding that joy I use to experience more and more difficult.

It is like chopping through a weedy garden to find the rose, only to turn about, and find the weeds you ripped up, are all back again.

What has happened to us? Why is it this way? How can we diminish the negative and focus on the positive? Or is the choice now, just leave? Step away from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and all other such sites.

Read more, walk more, live more. Let your soul sing.
